
Jaewon Lee is an accomplished pianist and award-winning teacher. She was awarded Steinway & Sons Top Teacher in 2016 and 2023. She has been a faculty member of the Washington Conservatory of Music since 2008 and is currently the chair of the piano department. She also maintains a private studio in North Potomac, MD.
Her numerous solo recitals include a performance of all twenty-four Chopin Etudes at the Sejong Cultural Center in Seoul, South Korea. She has won many piano competitions, including a concerto competition with the Seoul National University Orchestra to play at the National Theater of Korea. Jaewon’s other achievements include receiving the William Kurzban Prize from the Cleveland Institute of Music and performing solo at Carnegie Hall. She has been heard on WCLV, a classical music radio station in Cleveland, and has collaborated with members of the Cleveland Orchestra as a chamber musician. She has played concertos with the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Central Philharmonic Orchestra, the Suburban Symphony Orchestra, and the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra.
Jaewon is the chair of the Washington Music Teachers Association ConcertoFest. Her students have won numerous competitions including the international American Protégé Piano and Strings competition, Music-Fest Rising Talents, as well as Maryland State Teachers Association, Washington Music Teachers Association and Montgomery County Teachers Association competitions. Previously, at the Cleveland Music School Settlement, Jaewon was a member of faculty for fourteen years, coached chamber groups, and founded and directed the summer piano camp.
Jaewon Lee obtained her Artist Diploma from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and her B.A. and Master of Music in piano performance from Seoul National University. At the New England Conservatory of Music, she studied with Leonard Shure, a pupil of Arthur Schnabel. She also studied under Paul Schenly and Sergei Babayan at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She was listed in Marquis Who’s Who in America in 2024.
